Parshvanatha is the 23rd Tirthankar in Jainism. Two sects of Jainism, Digambaras and Svetambaras differ on the teachings of Mahavira and Parshvanatha. Svetambaras believe that Mahavira added the 5th monastic vow celibacy to Parshvanath’s first four restraints based on ‘ahimsa’ whereas Digambaras believe that there was no difference between their teachings.
